It’s always a scary thing when a company decides to redesign their logo, especially if they are a well established and recognizable company. So many things can go wrong with it and result in recalls, confused reactions from customers and can even make your brand unrecognizable. However, when it is done right a new logo can be refreshing, give a brand new energy and even get people excited about the company. I believe Universal’s new logo they are using to celebrate their 100th anniversary is a great example of how that can work.
For starters they took a cue from Paramount’s new logo and left the majority of the previous design’s foundation alone. This maintains the brands recognition that it has built over the years and uses that momentum to its advantage. However, to bring some new spark to the logo they have used new technology and visual effects to give the logo a more realistic feel with just enough flashiness to give it that feeling of fantasy you connect with and love about films.
Overall I like it and applaud the designer(s) who came up with this new piece of art and look forward to seeing it in action at my next visit to a Universal film in theaters.

About

All movie geeks have both an inner fanboy and a cinesnob, and the duality of that is always at war when darkening the door of the multiplex.
